Seats still available for bus to the Bank of America protest in Charlotte

Bank of America is holding it’s shareholders meeting on May 9 in Charlotte. A bus will be taking people from Greensboro to participate in protests organized by a wide coalition of organizations.

We will leave promptly at 6 am on Wednesday May 9th in order to be in Charlotte for the start of the 8am march. We will then rally and protest outside BOA headquarters with 1000 other folks from all over the southeast!

In order so that some folks can get back in time to go to work we are pulling out of Charlotte at 12 noon and should have you back in Greensboro by 2pm.

We have plenty of room left so please email Todd W. to confirm yourself and others you are bringing! We are leaving from and returning to the parking lot of Glenwood Coffee and Books at 1310 Grove St. Feel free to forward this message.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Working Group Report Backs

  • Foreclosure Working Group: Working on a lot stuff. We had an event with Occupy Raleigh around home defense. That work is still ongoing. We are creating a “Foreclosure Home Owners Group” for people who are experiencing this crisis to get some support and share their stories. The Mortgage Fraud Detection training will be NEXT Saturday at GC&B at 1pm (Talk to Todd). Still getting lots of emails from around the country about spreading this fraud detection work. Other groups that do legal work around foreclosure are close to coming out in favor of more action-focused efforts to stem this crisis because of our work. Meetings are still at Spring Garden Bakery on Thursday at 8:30am.
  • Art/Communication/Media Working Group: Website update. Need more people to get involved.

Facilitator: Bobbie
Notes: Christina

Present: Bobbie, Pamela, Jane, Christina, Todd, Mike, Nate, Ricky, Marnie, Mo, Barbara, Laurie

Of note, reporters were at the meeting filming and interviewing some on an individual basis.

Discussion

  • Pamela presented her foreclosure situation. Interesting twist is that her-soon to be ex- husband signed a new loan on their home. Pamela is on the original loan and deed, but not the new loan.
  • Jane is bringing Pamela’s situation to the floor to show that everyone has a unique foreclosure situation and she is willing to act as a paralegal on active cases. To use the fraud detection training to document active cases and collect data.
  • Mo is concerned that this project might need format guidance from legal aid, Mo has come across conversation with legal aid that our last home defense has made legal aid willing to back us more and offer us more information to use.
